Policy Adoption of Standard Country Codes, per FIPS 10-4 The federal government has adopted standard country codes for use in its SEVIS system, an information system mandated by federal legislation for monitoring admissions and participation of international visitors and students at institutions of higher education. Inasmuch as the central student information systems maintain much of the same information that SEVIS contains, data integrity between these systems must be achieved and protected. Therefore, the university's central systems shall adopt the same standard set of country codes set forth in FIPS 10-4. Moreover, all local systems that import data to the central systems, especially admissions systems, shall also adopt and maintain this data element standard. The central and local systems must comply with the new standard by the time the SEVIS system is implemented on campus. Approved: November 20, 2002 |
